Not being able to change the weather and as most of us can’t move to a tropical climate for the winter months (congratulations to those who can!) the best way to protect our skin is to winterize our skincare routine. The changing temperature and relative humidity levels can give us and our skins fits of dryness, redness and breakouts. To combat this we have asked our experts that best way to keep our skin looking summer fresh in the dead of winter. Here is what they had to say.
Embrace a Little Hibernation
The temperature difference between indoors and outside is greatest in the winter. This difference causes major problems with the appearance your skin. Avoid staying outside for prolonged periods of time. The sudden temperature changes can make your skin dry and red, contributing to broken capillaries. When you do go out, always make sure you moisturize your skin thoroughly.
Have a Balanced Attack
The winter months are going to be cold and dry, that is no surprise. Combat the cold and dryness by toning and exfoliating the skin. A once or twice weekly exfoliation will remove dead skin cells and allow the ‘new’ skin to breath better and absorb the other products you are using in your skincare routine. Simply by exfoliating your skin on a regular basis, you will already be proactively preventing dryness. A great product to keep your skin fresh and vibrant which exfoliates and then moisturizes is the Skindulgence Facelift.
Switch up Your Skincare
While we agree it would be great if we could have one product work well in all weather conditions, for most skin types and complexions it’s not possible. With the cold and dry weather people with dry sensitive skin feel the effects sooner than those with an oilier complexion. As the cold weather hits, switch up your moisturizer to a heavier one. While all moisturizers are designed to prevent dryness, not all work well in the cold weather. A great product for the winter is the gentle yet effective Skindulgence Moisturizer.
In addition to using a daily moisturizer, facial masks are a great way to pamper yourself while staying warm and replenishing your skin with the nutrients it needs to be healthy. Look to the Skindulgence BioCell Mask for your once a week “You Time.”
Nip Redness in the Blood
Our diets all play major roles in our complexion. Eating spicy foods and drinking red wine increases our blood circulation. Couple this with the cold temperatures and you are more apt to having redness issues. In addition to what you eat, washing with hot water will warm you up on those cold days, but it too increases blood circulation, thus increasing your potential for redness.
